In Review - Everygirl's Guide to Diet & Fitness

I recently finished Maria Menounos' book The Everygirl's Guide to Diet and Fitness.  My review: 3 out of 5 stars.

I'm glad I didn't purchase this book, but rather checked it out at my local library.  If you're thinking about picking this book up I suggest you do the same.  I did walk away with some great new recipes to cook, workouts to try, and tips to put into practice.  But in general the tips and tricks Maria provides aren't ones that you haven't heard before.  Still it's a great read and features celebrities and how they stay in such great shape.  The other aspect I did like was that Maria is an "Everygirl" even is she is on TV.  She still had to struggle to go from a size 14 to a size 2 and it didn't happen overnight.  So this is her personal plan that she followed during her lifestyle change and she does it in small doable steps or phases.  I enjoyed the personal connection but still no major life altering facts that I didn't know before.  But here are some reasons why you should pick it up...

  • Great recipes that are easy and quick to make
  • Ideas of unique and different workouts from hand weights and resistance bands to using a bench or your desk
  • Tips for how to still eat and drink what you love without going overboard - my favorite tip is to drink vodka soda with a lemon and a lime when you're out with friends
  • Another tip that I've been following that I think is smart is to choose one carb a day - you have to decide whether you indulge in the morning, afternoon, or evening and plan your other meals around it
  • Maria gives great websites and workout DVDs from other personal trainers and fitness instructors that I'll be looking into trying

That's my "In Review" of The Everygirl's Guide to Diet and Fitness by Maria Menounos.  I'll definitely be trying some of the recipes that were featured in the book and sharing them with you here.  My final verdict: if you're interested in gaining some extra knowledge on finding time to workout or eat healthy then I'd suggest this book.  However if you're looking for something a little more life-changing or if you're just starting your fitness journey I'd find another book.
